Organizational Reform & Institutional Capacity-Building

Organizational Reform & Institutional Capacity-Building

MPRI has been building institutional capacity around the globe since 1992. MPRI works in partnership with both governmental and non-governmental organizations to design and execute capacity-building programs that produce effective, accountable, sustainable institutions.  Our gold standard institutional capacity-building methodology incorporates strategic planning, organizational development, staff training, leader development, mentoring and institutional empowerment.  Rather than presenting predetermined organizational structures or systems, we follow a tried and true methodology of working in partnership with our local stakeholders from day one to design the institution, populate each department, train and mentor staff, and, over time, evaluate and empower the institution to become fully functional without external support.  While such an approach is particularly important in societies rebuilding after war, our methodology can be applied to a range of situations – from reorganization to integration of government and quasi-governmental institutions.

Government Capacity-Building

MPRI’s Government Capacity-Building programs serve the development goals of national, regional and local government entities and help them redesign and build strong institutions that operate effectively, serve the public good and fulfill their missions transparently and fairly.  Over the years, MPRI has worked with justice institutions, government service providers, community participation initiatives and regulatory authorities in countries as diverse as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Equatorial Guinea, Croatia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and India.  Through training, technical assistance, knowledge management and mentoring, our projects have strengthened governmental capacity to develop sound policies, sustainable systems and effective feedback and public oversight mechanisms.

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO)

MPRI and our partners work both to build the capacity of new and existing civil society organizations to fulfill their missions and with the government institutions that benefit from their input, dialogue and services.  Through programs aimed at increasing stakeholder participation to educational programs aimed at increasing understanding of NGOs and their many roles in society, MPRI broadens the space for civil society to shape public policy, inform citizens, carry out effective public dialogues,  advocate for rights, and build constituencies capable of shaping the nature of transition and development.  Through a variety of organizational development, training and grant programs, MPRI builds capacity of non-governmental organizations and individuals to successfully develop and implement missions, policies, systems and procedures so that they can serve their communities.

Communication & Outreach

Whether building a new road or a police force, effective communication is critical to the success of any good governance project.  MPRI provides assistance to government entities to develop strategies for effective outreach and information dissemination to both internal and external audiences.  We assist our institutional partners develop communications strategies, planning and implementation; media relations; event planning, website development and use of new technologies and media for outreach and public awareness campaigns.  Additionally, our communications experts support the development of surveys and polling to measure public opinion and evaluate the effectiveness of public programs and government service delivery.
