President, General (US Army, Retired) Carl E. Vuono

Carl E. VuonoGeneral (US Army, Retired) Carl E. Vuono has served as the president of MPRI since 1999. General Vuono has served in a variety of command and staff positions, including duty in joint and allied assignments. His extensive overseas assignments include six tours – one in Korea, two in Vietnam and three in Europe. General Vuono also had multiple assignments of increasing responsibility on the Army Staff in Washington, D.C., over the span of his military career, including a tour as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans.

During his distinguished career, General Vuono was selected to be the thirty-first Chief of Staff of the United States Army in 1987. During his tenure, the cold war ended and he led the Army as it participated in Operation Just Cause and Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. General Vuono was commissioned a second lieutenant and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy in 1957. He also holds a Master of Science degree and an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from Shippensburg University.
