Active and Reserve Component Marksmanship Trainers Combine Forces
(April 20, 1998)--

MPRI Press Release

Marksmanship instructors from the 2/29th infantry Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA combined forces with counterparts from the Army Reserve Small Arms Training Team (SATT) and 84th DIV (IT) to set new standards for zeroing M16A2 rifles during Initial Entry Training (IET). This success cut two full days out of the IET training schedule, and cut the average number of live rounds required for a soldier to zero the weapon from 24 down to 16 - a 33% real dollar saving.

These active and reserve subject matter experts used Laser Marksmanship Training Systems (LMTS), along with a SATT-developed training support package (TSP), to take a typical 200 strength company from the 1st infantry Training Brigade through basic rifle marksmanship (BRM) all the way to shot grouping and zeroing. Using MPRI, US military units can now practice shot grouping and 'closed loop zeroing' wherever a 25 meter (Army) or 36 yard (USMC) distance is available, saving range time, travel costs, and ammunition.
